When a larynx is properly functioning, the vocal cords close and open smoothly. As we exhale, the breath from our lungs carries out and vibrate against your vocal cords. Amplification occurs when the sound vibrates through your nose and mouth. Our muscles help us form words and also our teeth.

Laryngitis is when the larynx opening inflames and gets irritated. When it swells, your voice may come out hoarse or undetectable. The inflammation can be brought on by a viral infection or vocal strain. In most cases though it is only acute, not chronic.

Symptoms may include:

-dry sore throat

-painful swallowing

-feeling of fullness in throat

-fever

-swollen lymph nodes

To get better you need to not talk! Doctors cannot stress this enough as limited vocal use is necessary. Warm broths are recommend as is lots of rest.

Why not antibiotics?

Because this is a virus, medicine will not help. It depends on your doctors diagnosis, but within a week or so, your symptoms should start to disappear. If not, a different underlying issue might be the cause of it.
